HD VMD-new kid on the block!
Past a year of so there has been a war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.The war is being fought to judge which one of the two is the best for the HD future that is behead of us.Both has its own set of pros and cons, the war is taken to the next level due to the introduction of these technologies in the next Gen consoles such as Xbox 360(using HD-DVD/DVD) and Playstation 3(capable of plaing Blu-ray).At the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association(CEDIA) that took place in Denver recently,a company came forward saying that it has found an new HD-Format called HD Versatile Multilayer Disc(HD VMD) it can end the war between the the HD DVD and Blu-ray.The company claims that the new format uses Red Laser technology to screen the disc rather than Blue laser used by the Previous two DVD formats and the Company says that this would help to reduce the cost of it's products by a good margin since the cost of production of the red lasers is comparatively less than the Blue lasers. The new disc can stack up data upto 30Gb and is encoded with a max bitrate of 40mbps per seconds which is not bad when compared to Blu Ray's 48mbps and HD DVD's 36mbps.It can also support an 7.1 Dolby Digital crystal clear multichannel sound.Players for the new formats have also been introduced, the ML622S and ML775S are the two players that can play HD VMD's along with DVD,CD,Mp3.Priced at about $150 and latter costing more the new players have posed an open challenge to the existing HD formats.More info here
