17 yr old unlocks iPhone!

There has been a huge craze for iPhone since its release and its mainly due to its WiFi capabilities. But there is a severe problem with the iPhone(more of a created problem)that it would work only with America's AT&T mobile network. This prevented people from using other widely popular used network service such as T-Mobile and Cingular. An 17 yr old teenager George Hotz who is going to peruse his under graduation(currently in summer leave) has provided a breakthrough in making iPhone accept other wireless carriers other than AT&T.On an interview with CNBC he claimed that he had done it "just for fun" and said it was a "well spent summer".The hacker has said to have spent over 500 hours on finding this and says it takes quite a software/hardware skill to do this until an softmod comes out!The unlocked iPhone has already picked up speed at e-bay and is selling for $3000 or more.

Hotz also describes a full process on how to unlock the iPhone in his blog.He could have sold the unlocking process for millions of bucks, but he decided to give it out publicly!Hotz gives an exclusive interview to CNBC stating these and go here for more.

Apple, AT&T stores prepare for iPhone frenzy!!

With a little over two weeks until the iPhone hits store shelves, Apple and AT&T retail sales representatives say they are preparing for a quick sellout and huge crowds on the June 29 launch date. As of Wednesday, clerks at Apple and AT&T stores here said they didn't know how many phones they would be getting for the big launch. Some blogs have speculated the number might be as few as 40 devices per store. One sales representative from the AT&T store in Times Square, who wished not to be named, said that number was likely on the low side, especially for stores in big cities like New York. He said the AT&T Times Square store received 20 devices for the recent launch of Research In Motion's Blackberry Curve. The store quickly sold out of those phones and received another shipment of about 100 Blackberry Curves the following day.
Rumors have been floating around recently that Apple is planning to create a temporary shortage of the iPhone to keep demand high. An Apple representative wouldn't comment on these rumors, but said the company is glad customers are getting excited about the product.
